HOMONUMENT
The gay symbol of the city, the monument to the gay victims of Nazism in Amsterdam
Amsterdam has long been the gay capital of Europe (if not the world!). The city's gay symbol is the Homomonument, a monument to the homosexual victims of Nazism. It has now become a symbol of all the persecution suffered by homosexuals. Designed by Karin Daan in 1987, the monument consists of pink granite triangles extending from the Keizersgracht. They recall the pink triangles that homosexuals had to wear on their clothes in the Nazi camps. A commemoration takes place every year on May 4.

La date annuelle de commémoration étant le 4 mai, c'était entièrement fleuri et d'autant plus émouvant !
