KARTHUIZERHOFJE
Hofje built in 1650, which used to house widows, now reserved for rent in the public sector in Amsterdam
This hofje was built in 1650 on the site of a cloister and by order of wealthy merchants. It was designed by Daniёl Stalpaert, the city's official architect. It is perhaps the finest example of Hofje (courtyard) in the city, with its two gardens exuding calm and serenity. Once home to widows, it is now reserved for public rental. A superb place not to be missed. Just remember to be discreet and keep the volume low to ensure the peace and quiet of the place. A magical place.
