VAN BERLAGE BEERS
Symbolic building, the major work of the architect Hendrik van Berlage, containing all the elements of modern architecture
Fabulous building opposite the main railway station. In red brick, a little austere at first glance, this stock exchange is the major work of Hendrik van Berlage, who designed it between 1897 and 1903. Initially, the building was to have been constructed by Cordonnier of Lille, but it was Berlage who took charge. The Bursa contains all the elements of modern architecture, as later embraced by the Amsterdam School. It is now a cultural center, hosting numerous exhibitions and events.
