MAGNA PLAZA
A former central post office converted into a large luxury shopping mall, a Dutch Renaissance building
This imposing building, once the headquarters of the central post office, is now known as Magna Plaza, a vast shopping center. Built at the end of the 19th century, it is a remarkable example of Dutch Renaissance and neo-Gothic style, impressive for its exuberance and attention to detail, which led to much criticism of its architect, Cornelis Peters. The interior features a spectacular central hall, surrounded by galleries on two upper levels and adorned with elegant arcades topped by an opening roof.
