Close to the city zoo is another masterpiece by the architect of the Stock Exchange, Hendrik Petrus Berlage: the Berlage fortress was built to house the Amsterdam diamond syndicate headed by Henri Polak at the beginning of the last century. The building is a mini-castle, an all-brick church. Most impressive is the interior, with its bright colors, many variations of yellow and blue, monumental staircase and original chandeliers.
