AMSTERDAM MUSEUM
This vast museum, with its twenty rooms, traces the city's long history through the ages.
Founded in 1926, this museum is dedicated to the history and culture of Amsterdam. It traces the city's evolution through the ages, and features typical historical objects set in reconstructed interiors. The permanent collection is complemented by temporary exhibitions. Since 1957, the Amsterdam Museum has been housed in a former orphanage, the Burgerweeshuis, which has been under renovation since 2022. During the renovation, part of the collection will be on view in a wing of the Hermitage. The site is scheduled to reopen in 2025.
