HOLLANDSCHE SCHOUWBURG - DUTCH THEATRE
Theater and amusement place in the Jewish quarter which served as a deportation site for the Jewish population of the Netherlands in Amsterdam
Originally a theater and entertainment venue in the Jewish quarter, the Hollandsche Schouwburg was used between 1942 and 1943 as a deportation center for the Jewish population of the Netherlands. Only the façade remains. Today, it is a memorial to all the victims of the Holocaust: the chapel in the memorial garden contains the names of 6,700 Jewish families who fell victim to the war, representing the 104,000 Dutch victims of the Second World War.
