Every year since 1972, Rotterdam has been transformed into the tennis capital of the world by hosting the ATP 500 Rotterdam. The tournament usually takes place in mid-February at Ahoy, a renowned multi-purpose hall not far from the central station. Arthur Ashe, who has won three times (in 1972, 1975 and 1976), shares the record of victories with Roger Federer. Since its inception, the tournament has been sponsored by ABN AMRO and run by former Wimbledon winner Richard Krajicek.
