ERASMUSBURG - ERASMUS BRIDGE - DE ZWAAN
A bascule and cable bridge that connects the north and south banks of the new Meuse, designed by architect Ben van Berkel
The Erasmus Bridge is a cable-stayed bascule bridge linking the north and south banks of the New Meuse. It was designed by architect Ben van Berkel. At 802 m long, it is built around an asymmetrical 139 m-high pylon that evokes the shape of a swan's neck, hence its nickname De Zwaan. The structure was inaugurated in 1996 and is one of the highlights of the city's urban landscape. A national fireworks display is held here on New Year's Eve.
