Wooden shoes have been worn in Holland for almost 1000 years, and not only are they still worn today, but more than a million pairs are still used every year.
A unique collection of wooden shoes is on display in our wooden shoe museum, giving an insight into the historical tradition of this fascinating shoe. Live demonstrations of the making of today's wooden shoes are given on several occasions each day. Try on wooden shoes, take pictures and stroll around, we are open 365 days a year.
The Kooijman wooden shoe workshop is located in the beautiful windmill village of Zaanse Schans. This historic village, with its characteristic windmills and green wooden houses, gives a wonderful impression of life in the 17th and 18th centuries in the area known as the Zaanstreek, the first industrial area in the world.

Admission to the Zaanse Schans and the wooden shoe workshop is free.
The Zaanse Schans is located just north of Amsterdam.
There is a direct bus connection (391) from Amsterdam Central Station, which takes about 45 minutes. There is a direct train connection from Amsterdam Central Station to the Zaanse Schans in less than 15 minutes.
There is a car park next to the Zaanse Schans (parking is charged).
We are open 365 days a year.
Our opening hours are as follows:
From March to October every day from: 08:00 - 18:00
From November to February, every day from 08:00 to 17:00.
25, 26 December and 1 January: 09:00 - 15:00
