A small canal that is the most beautiful and charming of the city, lined with patrician houses of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries
Who said Amsterdam had a monopoly on charming canals? Alkmaar also has something to say about that. The Mient is a small canal that is probably the most beautiful and charming in the city. Lined with patrician houses from the 16th and 17th centuries, it is spanned by the oldest bridge in the city (1630), all made of brick. Right next to it (on the Verdronkenoord), there is a very nice little fish market from the 16th century. There are several nice and charming stores and a famous ice cream parlour.
