Founded in 1978, this museum, housed in the former Carmelite convent, traces the history of Christianity in Holland and presents the country's largest collection of medieval art. On display are a wide range of paintings, manuscripts and ecclesiastical ornaments, some dating back to the 9th century. On display are works by Rembrandt, Hals, Jan van Scorel, Geertgen tot Sint Jans (Gerard of St. John), and the magnificent painting The Virgin and Child by Van Cleve.
