A superb museum of exception renowned for its impressive collection of works by Vincent van Gogh.
A superb visit awaits you! The setting is magnificent, but it's the museum in particular that impresses with its exceptional collection of works by Van Gogh. Opened in 1938, the museum was built to plans by architect Henry van de Velde and bears the name of its founder, Helene Kröller-Müller. The sculpture garden was added in 1961, and the new wing, designed by Wim Quist, was inaugurated in 1977.
The collection focuses on the works of Van Gogh, with 90 paintings and over 160 drawings. The museum also features works from the De Stijl movement, including Charley Toorop's disturbing self-portraits and paintings by Piet Mondrian. Works by Braque, Léger and Seurat are also on display. Van Gogh's works are arranged around a patio, which it is advisable to walk around from right to left to chronologically follow the artist's development, in particular his progressive use of color. This collection is undoubtedly the highlight of the museum, itself a major attraction in the park. Impressionism is also in the spotlight, with works by Cézanne, Renoir and Monet. Some rooms are dedicated to the golden age of Dutch painting. The museum also houses an important collection of Greek ceramics and Chinese porcelain, as well as a rich section of contemporary art, including works by Giacometti, Beuys and many others.
