HUIZE TAVENIER
Historic site near the train station with a beautiful Jugendstil building with a unique, asymmetrical façade
This superb Jugendstil building is close to the station. The house is distinguished by its elaborate style and the richness of the materials used. The architect, A. Th. Van Elmpt, drew his inspiration from Europe (notably Germany, Italy and France). Each facade is unique and asymmetrical, and features highly successful mosaics. The building was commissioned by the wealthy widow of a cardboard manufacturer, but she lived there for only a few years before her death, and the building later became a maternity hospital. It is now used as offices.
