Academie Gebouw, located in Groningen, in a building of the university, the oldest in the country after Leiden
This is the university's main building. Founded in the 17th century, it is the country's second oldest university, Leiden being the first. The current building dates from 1909 and is a perfect example of the neo-Renaissance style. Note the three statues: Scientia, Minerva and Historia. Top left is Prudentia and top right, Mathematica. Opposite this building is the university library where you can enter: over 2 million books are deposited under your feet and can be consulted on request.
