GEERTRUIDSGASTHUIS
One of the city's most beautiful and photogenic hospices, originally welcoming pilgrims passing through Groningen
Also known as the Pepergasthuis, this hospice is undoubtedly one of the city's most beautiful and photogenic. Founded in 1405, it originally welcomed pilgrims passing through Groningen. It was later dedicated to the city's elderly and, in the 17th century, also housed lunatics behind its barred windows. The church bell dates from 1480, while the well dates from 1829. The dining room and church are open to visitors by appointment only. Mass is always celebrated here on Sundays at 10:30 a.m.
