GROTE MARKT
A square with cafes, historical monuments, a quintessential city square, with a forum giving a boost
Unfortunately, part of the square was destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt in a very uninspired, not to say ugly, style... Cafés, historical monuments: this square is the quintessence of the city. La Martinitoren is the pride and joy of all its inhabitants, affectionately nicknamed "Olle Grieze", the old gray, due to the color of the sandstone. It was built between 1465 and 1482. At 97 metres high and 6 storeys high, it is the country's third tallest tower. The forum gives the square a real boost.
