SAINT-SERVAIS BRIDGE
An iconic arch bridge in Maastricht, its oldest representation dates back to 1570, on a city map.
This arched bridge is an icon of the city. Its construction dates back to the 13th century, between 1280 and 1298. Although named in honor of Saint-Servais, it wasn't until 1932 that it officially received this name. Prior to that, it was known simply as "the bridge". Its earliest representation dates back to 1570, on a town plan. When it was restored between 1683 and 1716, parts of it were completely rebuilt using only old stone. In the past, every citizen, soldier and member of the clergy had to contribute money to its upkeep.
