GROTE MARKT
The Grote Markt is a lively and busy place, and also the center of entertainment with cafés and restaurants
The Grote Markt is Breda's main square. It's a lively, busy place. The square offers a sublime view of the Grote Kerk. The town hall (stadhuis) dates from the 17th century, although its current façade dates from 1768. The building houses a copy of The Surrender of Breda by Velázquez. The church contains the tomb of Engelbert II de Nassau. This square is the setting for summer festivals, notably jazz. It's also the center for nightlife, with cafés and restaurants. And, of course, it's carnival time!
