KABUL GOLF CLUB
It is quite surprising to see a golf course coming out of Kabul. The terrain is in poor condition and surrounded by tank carcasses. The green is in brown reality, it is a mixture of sand, loganberries, stone and dust. We must slalomer between donkeys, families that are pique. The material, too, is… time (wooden or iron clubs). Sometimes you need to look for holes in the sand.
It was King Pazira who introduced golf in Afghanistan in 1919. The ground was opened in 1967 and closed in 1978. He suffered a lot from the 25 years of war and it had to be completely clear. It reopened in April 2004. It is possible to take courses with the professional Muhammad Afzal Abdul. The one who has been a leader and coach for 35 years has been imprisoned by the Soviets and then the Taliban, accused of «meddling in foreigners». He was still waiting in 2012 for the visit of the Tiger Woods champion, who said he promised him to visit his green.
