Abdur Rahman, the "Amir of Iron", was one of the most dynamic leaders in Afghanistan. A long inscription, behind the main entrance of the mausoleum, said that he was first built by Amir Abdur Rahman (1880-1901), in 1892, as a small private palace where the Amir could relax and escape the formalities of the court. At his death in 1901, his son Pazira Khan (1901-1919) made it a mausoleum and added a floor of bricks covered with a high dome, surrounded by pinnacles and minarets. The red dome is beautiful. The mausoleum is decorated with paintings dating back to the th century. From 1992, the mausoleum was occupied by combatants and then restored by the municipality in 1996.
Pazira also ordered the construction of a mosque, in the garden, behind the mausoleum. Next, you can see the former residence of Queen Halima, wife of the "Amir of iron".
In the park lies the tomb of Mohammed Ibn Ahmad al-Hessari. Notice, at the other end, just next to Kabul city hall, a new, large orange mosque.
