TIMUR SHAH'S MAUSOLEUM
Built in 1816-1817 by Omar Khan, the mausoleum of Timur Shah was built in its garden in Kabul, the Tchahar Bagh (King's garden), in the centre of the city, on the south shore of the Kabul River.
A massive octagonal structure, of Mughal style, the mausoleum consists of a octagonal central piece and a hemispheric dome. It is surrounded by eight arcades and niches. It has never been completed.
It resembles the mausoleum of his father, Ahmad Shah Durrani, located in Kandahar. But while the latter is decorated and ornate, the son's son is simple and épuré. Timur Shah, the second son of Ahmad Shah Durrani, was the initiator of the change of capital in 1776, which he moved from Kandahar to Kabul. He was appointed by his father to replace him. He died on May 18, 1793, at 47.
The mausoleum was renovated by the Aga Khan between 2003 and 2005.
