The tomb of Djami, one of the greatest mongol poets and philosophers, is located north of Hérât, left of the road line for Iran. It is a marble stele where verses from the greatest poet and classical Persian author in the th century are reproduced. The poet Djami died in 1492, under a giant pistachio, where he will be buried. He was one of Persia's last Sufi poets. Its very simple tomb is located in the garden of the mosque. Djami worked in Hérât for the great Sultan Hussein Baïqara. Born in a village near Jam, he studied at the scientific study centre of the Islamic world of Samarkand and became Sufi. He is the author of several methods of teaching sufism. He wrote prose and poetry, which were very popular in the Persian world of the th century. The stele has already been destroyed by bombing and repaired. In 1921, a mosque and a brick madrasas were built behind the tomb of Djami. But these buildings were also bombed. At the end of 2002 they were restored. Other burials have been dug here alongside Djami, including those of martyrs. It is a place of calm and contemplation.
