It is the most important traditional pottery in Rwanda, with a quality production. The potters, who can be seen at work, are generally Twa. Very good explanations on the process and a complete visit of the site: pit where the pure clay is kept, preparation of the kaolin, mixing of the different components, work with the manual lathe, air drying and firing. A first firing of the pottery is carried out at +/- 900 °C, then the pottery is painted and a second firing at 1,300 °C completes the process.

An essential stop on the Gitarama trip to Butare (Matching GPS: 2° 17 ' 50.31" S - 29° 44 ' 56.45" E).
Very good explanations on the process of creation of Rwandan traditional pottery.
Full tour of the site (pit where is preserved pure clay, preparing the kaolin, mixtures of the various elements, work with the manual tower, air drying and cooking).
Fifteen craftsmen work on the site.
The first cooking the pottery is made with + 900°, then the pottery are painted and the second cooking with 1.300° ends the process.
