THE MIMURI SITE
In the 1950 s King Mutara III Rudahigwa loved hunting in the large savannah of Umutara, and he took advantage of it to meet the people and the customary chiefs. That's why it built this set of five small houses (3 circular and 2 wedge), with metal plates, an innovation at the time. When the mwami was not in the region, the camp was used as a shelter for Rwandans who were to visit or return to Uganda. Mutara III was Rwanda's penultimate sovereign. He died in 1959 in Bujumbura where he went to care. Rumours about possible poisoning by the whites spread, resulting in a wave of violence.
