Opened in 1973, Akagera Game Lodge was closed during the war years (1991-1994), then reopened in 2003. Located near the entrance of the park, this beautiful place, on the heights of Akagera, offers a superb panorama on the lakes Ihema and Shikani. Taken over by the Mantis group, the lodge has 60 air-conditioned rooms with all comforts, a large swimming pool and a terrace overlooking Lake Ihema, a conference center, a restaurant and a bar. Completely renovated and brought up to date, it offers a very good value for money inside the park.

The hotel is just a few hundred metres from the park entrance. Upon arrival you will notice that the hotel does not miss an old-fashioned charm. Head to the pool and enjoy the views of the lakes that border the park.
The place is nice and management (I recommend meet Jimmy) is attentive to restore it all its luxury of yesteryear. The staff is attentive and discreet and know that the Rwandan ones.
The rooms are comfortable and the bedding of very good quality all (cotton linens, thick mattresses attractions of Grand Hotels). small drawback, followed by a maintenance of the facilities would need (flushings, showers, furniture, etc.).
The kitchen also deserves a little nudge in the right direction in terms of originality. However, the products are fresh and prepared with all possible attention.
It remains to be added that wi-fi is available throughout and of good quality and that a wine list is worthy of the best restaurants of Rwanda.
We will go back...
