Among the multitude of beaches, four are absolutely worth a walk, sunbathing or swimming. However, their reputation means that they are often overcrowded in the summer months...
Praia de Galé. One of the best beaches in the area, 9 kilometers west. Unfortunately, it is the favourite spot for jet-skis, which sometimes makes it a bit noisy. It is not accessible by bus, so you will have to come by car
Praia da Oura. Two kilometers east. Easy access: on foot (30 minutes), follow Avenida 25 de Abril and, at the end, climb the stairs that lead to the road to the beach. In summer, don't have too many illusions: if you find 3 cm² to hang your towel, you will have earned your day.
Between Praia da Oura and Praia do Falesia (6 kilometres long and famous for its ochre-coloured cliffs), 10 kilometres to the east, the da Balaia and Olhos de Agua beaches are less crowded and accessible by bus.
Praia de São Rafael. 4 kilometers southwest of Albufeira following the coast, what a beautiful beach! Large cove of fine sand dotted with ochre rocks. It makes you feel privileged. Mainly frequented by a wealthy Portuguese clientele. It's a hidden corner of paradise, but one that needs to be known
Praia dos Pescadores. At the foot of the old town. The most typical beach of Albufeira where you still have a chance to see the fishermen untie their nets in front of their colourful boats. A few typical bistros and above all a lot of people in summer.
