TEATRO LETHES
A larger, more modern theater, adorned with ancient azulejos, has opened its doors to the public and is managed by the Faro municipality.
This former Jesuit college, founded in 1599, was transformed into a theater by an Italian doctor with a taste for the arts. In doing so, he was inspired by the model of the S. Carlos Theater in Lisbon. Carlos in Lisbon, and on April 4, 1845, its doors were opened to the public. Up to the present day, it is managed by the municipality, which is also responsible for its programming, but it is gradually being abandoned in favor of a more modern and spacious theater. Nevertheless, you can still admire the period azulejos adorning the walls of the corridors and the small, intimate dressing rooms, and... ask for the program.
