A religious festival celebrating the patron saint of Loulé, with a large procession through the town to the hill.
The feast of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, patron saint of Loulé, better known as Mãe Soberana, has been celebrated for more than 500 years on Easter Sunday. This feast is truly sacred to the Portuguese and is considered the biggest religious event south of Fatima. Its high point is the procession when the statue of the venerated patron saint is lowered from the church through the city in a fast walk, a secular tradition mixed with the religious tradition.
