A religious festival celebrating the patron saint of Loulé, with a large procession through the town to the hill.
Every year, the feast of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, patron saint of Loulé, better known as Mãe Soberana, has been celebrated on Easter Sunday for over 500 years. This festival is truly sacred to the Portuguese and is considered the biggest religious event south of Fátima. Its high point is represented by the procession when the statue of the venerated patron saint is lowered from the church through the town in an accelerated march, a secular tradition blended with ancestral Portuguese religious tradition.
