RENTED CASTLE
Loulé Castle, with 3 towers linked by a wall that once surrounded the town, now houses a municipal museum.
This military construction is obvious as soon as you venture into the centre of Loulé. Its construction dates back to the 13th century, as soon as the Portuguese took over the Algarve from the Moors. Moreover, the current building is erected on a former Arab defence site. In case of danger, the population of Loulé systematically withdrew inside the enclosure. Today three towers have survived. They are connected to each other by a wall that once surrounded the entire city. The castle also houses the Loulé Municipal Museum.
