ANTIGO CONVENTO DE NOSSA SENHORA DA PIEDADE
Convent of Notre-Dame de la Piété with a Manueline-style portal, retaining the sobriety of the Portuguese enclave's architecture.
Among the convents of Tavira, the one of Our Lady of Piety (or das Bernardas) has best resisted destruction and other calamities. Founded in 1509 to give thanks for the creation of the Portuguese enclave of Asilah, it was handed over to the bishop of the Algarve by D. João III. We remember the sobriety of the architecture, the purified exteriors and the absence of axial portico in the church, a distinctive mark of the female cloisters. Not to mention the beauty of its portal in Manueline style.
