IGREJA DO ANTIGO CONVENTO DE SÃO FRANCISCO
Convent of São Francisco in Tavira, now a complex building with interesting medieval remains and an ancient cemetery.
This convent founded by the Franciscans between 1250 and 1330 has suffered many disasters, earthquakes and a terrible fire in 1881 caused by lightning. It is now a complex building that preserves interesting medieval remains and an old cemetery. The church today has a distinct layout from the original, highlighting the sacristy which, along with the two Gothic chapels, remains the only part that has escaped the eight centuries of reconstruction.
