IGREJA DE SANTO AMARO
A church whose small museum houses beautiful pilasters carved with triple symmetrical motifs.
The construction of the church of Santo Amaro dates back to the period of the Visigoths' occupation, which is why it is called paleochristian architecture, although the church underwent modifications in the 16th and 17th centuries. Of the four Visigothic churches in Portugal, this is the oldest. It has been extensively restored with lime, but its small museum houses some original fragments, including beautiful pilasters carved with triple symmetrical motifs. Admission also includes a visit to the Convento Nossa Senhora da Conceição (and vice versa).
