CASA ROMANA
The Casa Romana unveiled amphorae, ceramic, glass and metal objects, two coins minted in Myrtilis.
In 1982, a fire destroyed the Mértola municipal building, which dated from the late 19th century. During renovation work two years later, archaeological remains were discovered on the site corresponding to a dwelling house from the Roman era, between the 1st and 4th centuries AD. The structures of the old house have been preserved in the basement, and the Casa romana has revealed amphorae, ceramics, glass and metal objects, as well as two coins minted in Myrtilis, the ancient name of Mértola.
