CROMELEQUE DO XARÊZ
A sacred enclosure sheltering a large menhir of 4 m height which weighs 7 tons, symbol of fertility.
On the road to Telheiro, 2 kilometers down south. Keep an eye out for the signs indicating the site are rather discreet. Drive 200 m east from the car park. A large menhir 4 m high, weighing 7 tons, symbol of fertility, surrounded by a square of 50 small granite menhirs forming the sacred enclosure, then faces you. Remarkable, it was "moved": the whole was restored at the beginning of the 20th century, then moved when the nearby Alqueva dam was impounded, which drowned a large part of the region.
