"Family wines for almost 200 years" is the promise of this prestigious winery, located in the heart of the city, which can be visited with a program of tastings to choose from (accompanied by regional specialties). It was here that Portugal's first bottled wine was produced! At José de Sousa, the tradition of making wine as it was done in Roman times - vinho de talha, i.e. fermented inside clay amphorae - has been maintained. There are 114 such amphorae on the estate, as well as steel vats for modern use.
