CASTELO DE BORBA
The Borba Castle was the last defense post before the important cities of Estremoz and Vila Viçosa.
Built by King Afonso II in 1217, it marked a new victory of the Christian Reconquest in this part of the territory. The Borba Castle was the last defense post before the important cities of Estremoz and Vila Viçosa, which it protected from the Spanish neighbor. This was still the case after the signing of the treaty that aimed to define the borders between Portugal and Spain. Today, portions of its old walls can still be seen, as well as two beautiful towers: the Clock Tower and the Prison Tower.
