CASTELO DE PORTALEGRE
The castle of Portalegre houses a small museum that presents the history of the city as well as a collection of old weapons.
Built in the 13th century, the château is located at the top of the town and stands out for the contrast between its dark walls and the whitewashed houses. Its walls have been reinforced many times over the centuries, and it now boasts a handsome contemporary wooden facade. It wasn't until 1960 that the first major restoration work was carried out. A small museum, the Núcleo Museológico do Castelo, is now housed here, presenting the history of the town as well as a collection of armaments.
