STUD FARM OF ALTER REAL
This national stud is intended to perpetuate the breed of the Lusitano horse Cavalo do Sorraia.
This national stud is the descendant of the João V Royal Stud, founded in 1748. Its purpose is to perpetuate the Lusitanian Cavalo do Sorraia breed. Considered an excellent saddle horse, it is used by the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art in Queluz. Guided tours include the mares' stables, falconry, the João VI courtyard, the stallion-breeding depot, the carriage shed (19th-century horse-drawn carriages) and the Horse Museum, featuring an impressive collection from the Rainer Daehnardt private collection.
