The synagogue of Castelo de Vide, now a museum, is one of the two remaining medieval synagogues in Portugal. It was the discovery in 1972 of a stone tabernacle that allowed it to be identified as a synagogue. The museum traces the history of the Jews in Castelo de Vide: ceramics, ethnographic elements, coins and a room dedicated to the memory of Garcia de Orta, a doctor who made many discoveries about medicinal plants. An enriching journey through the cultural and religious history of the city.
