CHURCH OF THE MONASTERY OF SÃO GONÇALO
Church renowned for its carved golden wooden altar, a beautiful testimony of the historical past of the city in Amarante.
This church is part of a beautiful monastery of the 16th century (1540), with an interesting three-storey façade decorated with numerous sculptures. But the building is especially famous for its carved golden wooden altar, erected behind the central altar. You will also admire a 17th century organ and visit the small chapel where the tomb of São Gonçalo is located. A beautiful testimony of the historical past of the city, which you won't miss in Amarante.
