SÃO TORCATO
Go there and contact
A city remarkable for the presence of a nineteenth-century sanctuary mixing Gothic, Romanesque and classical styles in Guimaraes.
This city on the banks of a river is remarkable for the presence of a 19th century sanctuary combining Gothic, Romanesque and classical styles. The monastery church is classified as a historic monument because it was built by the Visigoths. Although it was altered in the 12th century and enlarged in the 11th century, it shows some elements of the original building. São Torcato is also well known for its folk festival, which takes place every first Sunday in July. There is a signposted hike, ask at the Guimarães tourist office.
