MUSEU ALBERTO SAMPAIO
Museum that presents a collection that includes beautiful sculptures and paintings from the Middle Ages to Guimaraes.
The museum occupies the 13th-century cloister of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira, and showcases the riches of this church and the region's convents. The cloister walk, with its small garden, is lined with pieces of sacred art, including the Romanesque chalice of Sanche I and a magnificent Gothic altarpiece in vermeil depicting the Nativity. The collection also includes fine sculptures and paintings from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Also worthy of note are carved and gilded wooden works in the Mannerist and Baroque styles, dating from the 16th to 18th centuries.
