GUIMARÃES CASTLE
The building is very impressive with its fortress protected by a moat, a drawbridge and a massive, crenellated enclosure.
Built between the 10th and 11th centuries to resist Norman and Moorish invasions, this fortress is protected by a moat, a drawbridge and a massive, crenellated enclosure. In the 12th century, Dom Henrique and Dona Teresa settled in the castle and renovated it to extend and fortify it. Occupied by successive kings of the kingdom between the 13th and 15th centuries, it fell into disinheritance when it lost its defensive role until the 20th century. The 27 m high tower offers a beautiful view. Be careful, the last staircase leading to the roof is very steep.
