SHIP GIL EANNES
A hospital ship commissioned in 1955, whose visit allows us to discover the captain's office still equipped.
The Gil Eannes is a hospital ship (also a tug and icebreaker) commissioned in 1955. She worked until 1973 with Portuguese sailors who fished cod on the banks of Newfoundland and Greenland. The visit allows us to discover the captain's office still equipped with all its instruments, the dormitories, the engine rooms and the operating and medical examination rooms. Part of the ship is occupied by the town's youth hostel. The statue of the explorer João Álvares Fagundes is located in front of the dock.

Nous avions aussi passé la nuit dans la partie aménagée en auberge de jeunesse. Dormir dans ses cabines et se doucher là-bas sont une vraie expérience !
A faire !
The hospital part is very interessante, you can also see the engine rooms, the life of the crew... the continues its remarkable restoration work ship... not to be missed!
