TORRE DO RELOGIO
A castle that protected the village from pirate attacks, frequent on the coast in Caminha.
The Clock Tower is what remains of Caminha Castle and you will not miss to see it. With its arched hole, this tower links the main square of the village to the small pedestrian streets in a maze. Built in the 12th century, this castle protected the village from pirate attacks, frequent on this part of the coast. It gained further strategic importance in the defence of the country's border during the War of Restoration of Independence led by Joao IV against Spain in the mid-seventeenth century.
