One of the most spectacular palaces in the country, one of the most outstanding examples of Baroque architecture in Portugal.

This palace, one of the most spectacular in the country, is also one of the most striking examples of Baroque architecture in Portugal. It belongs to the Sousa Botelho family. The estate includes the main house, built in the early ^18th century, the palace gardens, a chapel and an adega. The library, with over 6,000 volumes, is impressive. It was first opened to the public in 1961. Although a little expensive for what it is, the palace is well worth a visit. Listed as a national monument since 1910.

Le "must "de Vila Real est une entreprise commerciale capitaliste bien rodée avec des prix pas très serrés : 22 euros la visite complète : bâtiment et jardin, 15 euros le bâtiment seul, 12 euros le jardin seul. Pour les handicapés pour qui le parking normal est un peu loin, on peut stationner dans le parc pour 12 euros ! Si le bâtiment agréable n'apporte pas grand chose de neuf, les jardins sont exceptionnels et sublimes avec des roseraies de toutes les couleurs. On peut éviter la boutique aux vins assez chers et aux souvenirs "made in China"

Très beau palais et jardin. La visite du jardin seule permet déjà de profiter de différentes perspectives pour admirer l'architecture du bâtiment et des jardins français et anglais très bien tenus. Vaut le détour lors d'une visite dans la vallée du Douro.
