CASA DE MATEUS
One of the most spectacular palaces in the country, one of the most outstanding examples of Baroque architecture in Portugal.
This palace, one of the most spectacular in the country, is also one of the most striking examples of Baroque architecture in Portugal. It belongs to the Sousa Botelho family. The estate includes the main house, built in the early 18th century, the palace gardens, a chapel and an adega. The library, with over 6,000 volumes, is impressive. It was first opened to the public in 1961. Although a little expensive for what it is, the palace is well worth a visit. Listed as a national monument since 1910.
