Perched on its rocky spur, this panoramic lookout, built in 1507, offers - and this is the trump card - wide views of Mutrah Bay and the coastal districts on one side, and the mountains and inland districts on the other - a strategic position for spotting invaders arriving by sea or land. Unlike some other forts, it has no furnishings, but consists of a succession of ramparts, watchtowers and outdoor platforms that are reached by a valiant flight of steps. A good selfie has to be earned!
