HÔTEL D'ARGOUGES * * *
Private mansion with terrace overlooking a garden in Bayeux.
A stay in a unique hotel from the eighteenth century is not exceptional, especially in Bayeux. But the Hôtel d’Argouges has a special charm. Maybe it’s because of the street it’s located on, which adds to its allure. Perhaps it’s because guests have to pass through its entrance before discovering its beautiful facade, accentuated by a semi-circular staircase. It could be the garden side, with a terrace where a garden lounge awaits visitors in the sunshine. The large wood-panelled salon, tapestries, parquet floors, and antique mirrors give the impression of waiting for a noble lady in a Louis XV costume to return. And most importantly, Pierrette, Yves, and Frédéric - it’s a family affair at this hotel - have not let success get to their heads and take great care of their guests, just like the rest of the staff. Perhaps, in the end, a night at the Hôtel d’Argouges will leave you yearning for the Enlightenment era. Lastly, if you stay in the main hotel building itself, not its annex, you’ll find it as comfortable as the annex but with more charm, that’s for sure.
