PUBLIC LIBRARY & MUSEUM
Octagonal bookshop and museum, with a superb veranda, featuring a modest collection tracing the country's history
This original octagonal-shaped building was the former Nassau prison, built in 1797. The old cells now contain books and historical documents. On the first floor, the board room is surrounded by a beautiful period veranda with a breathtaking view of the city of Nassau. The collection on display is modest and deals with the history of the country. Numerous plans and maps are displayed in the exhibition. An interesting section is devoted to the Lucayan Indians, the first inhabitants of the islands.
